this is for new players who need to know some basic terms
Add - An enemy that joins the fray once a fight has already begun.
AFK- Away from keyboard
Aggro - the games way of determining who an NPC attacks. Depends on damage, heals, and critical hits.
AH - Auction house, an ingame place to buy and sell items from other players.
AoE - Area of effect. A spell that targets all enemy or friendly units within a set range.
AQ 20/40 - Ahn'Qiraji A very hard instance. Two branches. The 20 man ruins of AQ and the 40 man temple of AQ
Armor (AC armor class) - the stat the determines how much damage you take from an enemy melee attack. There is Plate, mail, leather, and cloth armor. Plate being the toughest, cloth being the weakest. Unlike D&D, higher armor is better.
AP - Attack power. It along with armor determines how much damage you do from melee.
Baron strath - A level 60 dungeon. Also Dead/undead strath. A different branch of the dungeon Stratholme. The other branch is called Scarlet or living strath.
Barren's chat - Pointless chat. The barrens if very big and involves lots of boring running. When people get bored they chat about chuck norris or whatever. With the introduction of the world wide LFG channel, barrens chat is everywhere.
BE - Blood elf
BFD - Black fathom deeps, a level 25 dungeon in auberdine.
BG - Battle grounds. BG's set area's where players from the horde and alliance duke it out. It only allows a certain # of people in at once, so there's always going to be a wait.
BoE - Bind on equip. Once you equip it, it's stuck to you.
BoP (BoA) - Bind on pick up or aquire. Once you touch it, it's yours. You can only sell it to a vendor.
BRB- Be right back. (See AFK)
Bubble - A paladin spell that keeps them from taking damage or being interrupted while casting spells. A common combination is the Bubble hearth. Where they teleport back to their home city with a hearth stone, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Buff - A beneficial spell that can be cast on someone.
BWL - Level 60 raid instance
Camp - staying in one place to kill somebody as soon as he/she ressurects.
CC - Crowd Control. Incapacitating an enemy. Keeping them from fighting. Very helpful when 1 enemy can kill you.
Cooldown, CD - The time it takes to be able to use a move again. All moves have a cooldown of at least 1.5 seconds. That is the universal cooldown. Some spells take 2 days.
Crit - Critical hit.
Debuff - The opposite of a buff. A harmful spell cast on someone.
Ding - A sound from everquest or something. It means someone leveld up. usually followed with a bunch of gratz's.
DK - Dishonorable kill. When you kill a civilian during a raid on an enemy city, your honor goes down.
DKP - Dragon/Dungeon kill poinst. A scoring used in high end raids. It's illogical for a new guild member to win an item a long time raid attendee has been wanting. So if you attend enough raids, or kill enough bosses, you get some DKP that you can use to bid/buy epic items with.
DM - Dire maul or deadmines. Both are dungeons.
DnD - Do not disturb, a setting you can use so that noone will send you personal messages.
Dot - Damage over time. A spell that will do X amount of damage over Y amount of time.
DPS - Damage per second. Sometimes it just means damage. "DPS that add!"
Drop - when something dies, it yields loot. "That quilboar over there dropped a sword that does 50 DPS!"
Farm - To continually do something kill enemies over and over for experience, money, or items
Fear - a debuff that causes the feared character to lose control and run around/away for X amount of seconds.
Fort - a spell of priests that raises the stamina of a character. Power word: fortitude. Gives health.
FTL/FTW - For the loss/win. FTL is like boo and FTW is like woah he's awesome.
G2G - Got to go
Gank - Basically to gank someone is to kill someone much lower level than you, or when they're at some huge disadvantage.
GM - Gamemaster. Page them if you have any tech issues or something. *Warning* Do not insult a GM. They are like level 200 and can ban you whenever they want
GotW - See MotW
Gnomer - a level 30 dungeon in Dun Morogh. Gnomeragan.
Grind - To farm for xp
Guild - A group of players that are in one large group.
Hearth - To hearth stone. also HS. Every player has one in the beginning. It teleports them back to their city of choice. Cooldown is 1 hour.
HK - Honor kill. When you kill an enemy player. Gives you honor.
Honor - The scoring system blizzard uses to rank players. Once you get to the top rank, you get some super strong weapons.
HP - Hit points, health.
IF - Ironforge. The main city of dwarves and gnomes. Pretty much it's the capital of the alliance.
Imp - either short for improved, or one of the warlock pets that shoots fire balls.
Inc - incoming. "We got adds inc"
Instance - A dungeon. WoW generates unique instances for each group of players. While all dungeons are relatively the same, the instance in which a player visits is unique. Instance is interchangable with dungeon.
Kite - (also train) The strategy in which one player takes aggro from an enemy, and slows it down using debuffs so that it runs in circles. A form of crowd control.
KoS - Kill on sight. What the enemies in red circles will do to you
LBRS - Lower black rock spire. A level 57-60 dungeon.
LFG - Looking for group
LFM - Looking for more
Lock - short for warlock
lol - laugh out loud. lots of laughs. basically haha
Log - logging off. leaving
Loot- the items or money recieved from killing an enemy or opening a chest
Lvl - level.
Mana - MP. magic points. needed for spells
Mara - short for maraudon. a level 45ish instance in Desolace.
Mats - short for materials. The reagents needed to perform a spell or craft an item.
MC - Mind control or molten core. molten core is a level 60 raid instance. mind control is a priest spell where a priests takes over the body and attacks or runs of a bridge. Effective for crowd control in small groups. One attacks somebody, and the group usually kills the MC'd one.
Mob - enemy
MotW - Mark of the wild. A druid buff that is considered the strongest in the game. Raises a bunch of stats and armor.
MT - Main tank or mistell. Mistell is when somebody sends a message to the wrong person and then says "sorry MT" Main tank is the person (usually a warrior) who has the highest armor and thus takes the least damage from enemies. They want aggro and have many skills to get it.
Newb - a person who is new to the game.
NE - night elf
Ninja - somebody who steals loot. If a group kills a boss, or a good item drops, the group leader will try to decide who gets it. A ninja runs in, takes the loot, and then hearths away. Please, don't be a ninja. Tell others if you encounter one.
i am stupid - an arrogant newb who thinks he can play better than everyone else. Sometimes gets confused with newb but they should really be different. newb is pronounced new and you just add a b at the end. i am stupid is like ... well... i don't know if i can say it.
NPC - Non playable character. anyone that any player anywhere can't be.
OMW - on my way.
OOM - out of mana! used when you're out of mana. If you're the priest it means, "no more heals for anyone so we're screwed!"
OT - off tank. If a group of mobs has more than 1 enemy, the off tank picks up the other and takes damage from him.
Org - Orgrimmar, the capitol of orcs and trolls. The capitol of the horde.
Pally - Paladin
Pat - patrol. A mob who wanders back and forth. Usually adds are pats.
Port - portal. Mages can create portals to go to major cities.
Pot - potion.
Proc - When an item procs, it means it had a bonus effect. Some weapons say Chance on hit: blah blah blah. To proc is to blah blah blah.
PST - please send a tell. Used in trades and recruiting. if you're interested send a tell by pressing /t and then typing your message.
Pull - to start combat with a bunch of enemies.
PUG - Pick up group. A regular group of not especially good friends who are sometimes unorganized. You usually get pugs for quests and instances.
PvE - player versus environment. Where people fight NPC's
PvP - Player versus player. Where players fight each other.
Res - also rezz, it means to ressurect. Where a priest, shaman, paladin or druid cast a spell that brings a player back to life.
RFC - Ragefire Chasm. a low level instance in orgrimmar.
RFD - Razorfen Downs. A level 40ish instance in the southern barrens.
RFK - Razorfen Kraul. A level 20-30 instance in the southern barrens.
Sap - a rogue crowd control move. It incapacitates a humanoid enemy for X seconds. Any damage will wake the sapped up
Scholo - Short for Scholomance. a level 60 instance.
SFK - Shadowfang keep. An instance in silverpine forest.
Sheep - A mage spell that turns an enemy into a sheep for X seconds. The sheep wanders in circles until the spell wears off.
Spec - From level 10 till max level, you get one talent per level up. You use talents to customize your character. Most of the time, players specialize in one tree of talents. This is where spec came from.
SS - Soul stone. An item a warlock can create that attatches to a player. If the player dies in the time it's attatched, they have the option to be rezzed.
Tank - the person who has the most armor and defense. They hold onto aggro so the frail characters don't get mauled.
TB - Thunderbluff the capitol of taurens.
TM - tarren mill a city that is famous for being raided.
Twink - a character, usually the second or third or something, who recieves much help from high leveld characters. Twinks usually have great armor and level fast.

UBRS - Upper black rock spire, the upper portion of blackrock spire. a level 60 instance.
UC - the undercity, the capitol city of the undead.
VC - vancleef. The boss in deadmines. DM could mean dire maul or deadmines, so VC is used to avoid confusion. WoW.
WC - the wailing caverns. A level 15-20 instance in the barrens.
WoW - world of warcraft.
WTB - Want to buy. this means you want to buy something.
WTS - want to sell.
WTT - this means you want to trade something for something.
XP - experience
Zerg - When you get a bunch of unorganized people to take something by force. Zerg is a term from starcraft. The zerg were famous for their large amount of weak units.
ZF - Zul'farrak a level 45-50 instance.
ZG - Zul'Gurub a level 60 20 man raid instance.
