pretty cool game i got a while ago, still playing to get an S rank on every mission. it is part rts game, like starcraft, where thers a birds eye veiw and you move your troops around on the field, but you also switch to a 3rd person shooter mode, where you take control of one of your units and let the AI or your limited command skills in this mode take care of the rest of your units. it is really fun to have 2 different styles of gameplay in a single mission, and the controls for the 3rd person shooter are really smooth. Frankly though, your troop's AI is completely inferior to that of the enemies (you order them to take cover and they rush out into the open and get slaughtered), so i played out most of the game in third person shooter mode. its amazing how much more effective the units are when controlled by a human. you can really turn the tide of the battle. when you take control of vehicles, the game turns into a racing game, such as a mission where you are in a recon, delivering time sensitive info to your hq, only to be ambushed by enemy recons, bazzokas, and tanks. you break through barbed wire fences, fly high into the air off of ramps, jump a bridge being raised, and gennerally have lots of fun. its a nice break from dodgeing bullets and capturing objectives. it is also a flying game, piloting fighters to shoot down enemy bombers. I must say that the controls for all of the modes of play feels just like racing , fliying, rts, and 3rd ps. the controls switch around quite nicely.
the animation is a 3d version of the cartoony advance wars figures, if any of you have ever played. there are some funny moments, some unintentional, such as running and your char. trips over a log and falls. the music is nothing special, but its not annoying either.
all in all, its a really fun action game, which dips into many different gameplay styles, and has lots of variety. during the campagn, it never gets boring. my complaints are that it has no multiplayer functions at all, which are kinda expected of the extention of advance wars. also, after the campagn is done, there are only 2 additional extra missions, and to acess them, you have to get all s ranks.
Fun 8

Overall 7.5
